Altec 604 E

What are your guys opinions on the 604E duplex driver. I have been wondering how this would sound in a listening room that's 20x35, in the appropriate sized box. Probably powered with an old Mcintosh 2505 amp and an mcintosh mx-110 preamp. pushing around 60-70 nice clean watts.

Mine have UREI 800H custom HF horns, ML xovers, 'Big Red' style cabinets.

- ~3-6 db (by ear) less sensitive than (for comparison) UREI 813c's (perhaps expected by design, and; (older) alinco vs ferrite, original xovers that probably need recapping).
I like the timbre of the 604e's better (vocals have more body), but the 813c's have more HF extension or better dispersion, larger soundstage.

I do not have as large of a room though, nor do I put anywhere near that amount of power through either of them.

They excel in the bass department when compared to my Maestro M600's

Getting the crossover right will make all the difference. (not easy)

I have a set of old electrovoice marquis speakers, that now house the 15TRX drivers, that are just a little over 4 cu.ft., that i would like to try them in. Thanks for the info everyone

I drove my 604 8G's with the MC250 for a long time. My VT60 Audio Research sounded better, but what really woke them up was the MC2200. If you like even moderately loud, even these super efficient speakers can use more power.
